Entertainment
We were asked to read a section in our book Remix. This section is based around entertainment and what entertainment is and the different perspectives within it. The article we read was called Pearls before Breakfast: Joshua Bell on the Subway. The article is about a world renown violinist ( Joshua Bell) who plays his violin in the subway. He was placed in the subway in regular street clothes and nobody recognized who he was. It was not until six minutes after he started playing did someone stop to listen and enjoy the music. Thousands of people walked by him that day and only a few stopped to realize the creativity and talent that he had. People were busy and preoccupied with their daily routine, but it is still sad when a very famous musician plays in a busy subway and nobody knows or acknowledges the music. It makes you wonder what we consider entertainment these days and what grabs our attention.

The BEST Sports interview EVER
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tknFrYpvYYs
Let me start by saying this... By no means am I a Baltimore Ravens fan, but I do respect Ray Lewis for the great player and leader he is and for everything that he has done to make the NFL what it is today. This has to be one of the greatest sports interviews of all time. This video shows the process in which a good interview should be done. Throughout the entire interview you can tell that Ray lewis is 100 percent inspirited and exhilerated by the interview, he actually wants to be there. He shows that he is intrigued in the questions, the question were well thought out and open-ended, so I would say all aspects of this interview were pretty solid. This was just a really good video overall.

It Takes A Tribe
This Blog Post is about a required reading that we had to do for class called "It Takes A Tribe" by David Berreby. The concept behind the excerpt was to show how different traditions and "Tribes" used to create a sense of community among students at different colleges and universities. This reading talks about how students don't really think about the small things that make a college or university what it is, but they see the big picture and just want to be a part of the "Tribe." Students may join a club or attend a certain school because they have friends that go there or they like the schools sports teams, but they may not look into the small aspects, like campus life and academics. Berreby States "Human Beings will give a lot, including their lives, for a group they feel part of." I agree with this, people do tend to give up a lot of their life to be a part of something, whether it's what they want or not. It's to fit in more often than not. I liked the part where the psychologist studied the Rutgers students and put them in a room that either had a Rutgers pennant, a Princeton flag, or a Yankees banner. Students in the Rutgers room tended to talk more about the color scarlet and Rutgers-related things, while those students who were not in the Rutgers room tended to talk about other things like their life and where they came from. I think that people really do just attend schools or join "Tribes" to be a part of something that makes them look better rather than something they enjoy. I really enjoyed what David Berreby had to say about campus communities and how they work.

September 11 Tattoos
Why get a tattoo? What do they mean? People all over the world decide to get tattoos for multiple different reasons, some of more importance than others. The story of September 11 tattoos shows images of people who got tattoos of something very close and personal to them. I really like how all three were different and unique in their own way. Some are religious, while others are memorial. This reading was very close to heart because september 11 was a big tragedy for our country, but it is also my birthday and I'll never forget those who gave their life. These images really hit home and I enjoyed seeing all the tattoos and how people memorialize special events in their life.
